Cindy Sherman by Stephanie Aubuchon

Website

Cindy Sherman is a photographer from the late 1970s. She is a photographer who focus was gender and performance. Recently we covered the art of Cindy in my Contemporary Art class and we talked about how the images she would take would be her but were never really her. These images create a some what feminist vibe in the way that Cindy has made the woman of the classical movies, portrayed in these photos, the subject versus the always lime lighted male lead of the script.

These images resembled classical movies so much so that people would sometimes look at these images and say that they remember the scene from a movie, when in actuality the scene is from no movie at all, it is simply a creation in Cindy's mind.

As photography students we can learn from Cindy in the way she creates a hidden message from an everyday movie.
