The 2013 COMPETITION

Exhibited at the Paris Salon de la Photo (November 2013), visited by more than 80,000 photography lovers.
We invite photographers from around the world (18 years and older) to submit their finest work—in color or black and white, using any photographic process or style of camera.
All entries will be submitted online through this website. No other forms of submission will be accepted

Photographers may enter each of their images in one or more of the following categories.

Also, please note that this competition focuses on fine art photography and excludes commercial work such as advertising, wedding, or fashion photography.


AWARDS
In collaboration with The de Groot Foundation, The International Fine Art Photography Program will make the following awards in November 2013.
For each of the seven categories:
1st Place—Grand Prix de la Découverte:
$2000 cash award and award certificate
Plus travel to Paris for the November exhibit and awards ceremony
2nd Place:
$1000 cash award and award certificate
3rd Place:
$500 cash award and award certificate


RECOGNITION & EXPOSURE

The images selected as finalists by the jury will be:
  • Exhibited at the Paris Salon de la Photo (November 2013), visited by more than 80,000 photography lovers.
  • Accepted into the prestigious collection of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France
  • Exhibited in the Grand Prix de la Découverte online gallery and social media community
All photographers selected as a finalist or a Juror Award of Merit winner will receive an award certificate.
In addition, 1st Place Winners will be published in aCurator Magazine and blog (seen by curators throughout the world), and Juror Award of Merit winners will be published in the online gallery and social media community.


ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for this competition, photographers:
  • Must submit original work
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • May live in any country
Photographers are not eligible to participate if they:
  • Earn more than 75% of their income through their photography
  • Have had a solo exhibit at a major museum*
  • Are employees of The de Groot Foundation; employees of IFAP, LLC; jurors; or volunteers for any aspect of the competition; or immediate family members of any of the aforementioned.
*Photographers can have
  • donated work to a museum
  • had their work acquired by a museum
  • exhibited their work in a solo or group show in a gallery or small museum
  • exhibited their work in a group show in a major museum
However, photographers must not have had a solo exhibit at a major museum.


ENTRY PROCESS

General Submission Guidelines:
  • You may submit a maximum of 15 entries.
  • A single image in a single category constitutes an entry.
  • You may enter an image into more than one category if the image fits the category guidelines. (It is your responsibility to make sure your images are in the correct categories.)
  • No more than one image by a photographer will be selected as a finalist in any given category. However, a photographer may have a finalist image in more than one category (if he or she has entered more than one category).
  • A photographer may not be selected as a 1st place winner in more than one category.
  • Photographs:
    • must have been taken by the photographer after December 31, 2007
    • may not have won a Grand Prize or 1st Place in a major photography competition
    • may be color or black and white
    • may be made with any type of camera or photographic process.
  • All images must be submitted as digital files.
  • Please make sure you have uploaded all images for consideration in the competition before finalizing (paying for) your submission. Once you have paid, you will not be able to modify your submission.
  • Submission Fees:
    • The Early Bird submission fee (up until 11:59 pm Pacific Daylight Time, April 14, 2013): $20 per image per category.
    • The Regular submission fee (up until 11:59 pm Pacific Daylight Time, May 12, 2013): $24 per image per category.

TIMELINE

March 4, 2013 - Submission Process Opens
April 14, 2013 - Early Bird Submission (11:59 pm Pacific Daylight Time)**

July 15, 2013 - Category Finalists Announced
September 2, 2013 - Final Photographs Received (unmatted, unframed)
November 2013 - Exhibition and Awards Ceremony; Winners Announced
**Entrants are responsible for determining the corresponding deadline time in their geographic location.
INFORMATION FOR FINALISTS

Category Finalists will be announced on July 15, 2013, and will be asked to ship exhibit-ready photographs for final selection of awards by the jury and for display at the November 2013 Paris exhibition.
Exhibit-ready, signed photographs (unmatted and unframed) must be received by September 2, 2013 (mailed at the participant's expense). These exhibit prints cannot exceed 27 inches (71 cm) on the longest dimension. The competition will provide matting (passepartout) and framing for the exhibit images at no expense to the finalists.
